Dancefusion presents Master Teacher Jim May with the Dancefusion company in an  Anna Sokolow Showcase. The program will feature excerpts of works by legendary American choreographer Anna Sokolow. The company will present Ballad in a Popular Style and Kaddish from As I Remember. The program will also include Alone, inspired by the poetry of Edgar Allen Poe, and a Sokolow Street Study. Jim May will dance in his original solo Passage, to a live piano score played by John Heward.

The evening will start with a demonstration of a Sokolow style/technique class which is a unique blend of dance & theater that often includes voice in the demanding warm-up. Knowledge of painting, poetry, literature, and culture is essential to take one beyond pure dance. Led by Master Teacher Jim May, who received a Bessie award as “premiere leading man, an actor-dancer of extraordinary range and scope of character, in the living theater of Anna Sokolow,” this Showcase is a culmination of 10 Sokolow workshops that started in the spring. Sokolow gives each dancer a unique opportunity to challenge creativity, go beyond academia, and explore one voice in the artistic community.
