Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble will perform twice on the American Dance Guild’s 70th Anniversary Festival.
Thursday, October 22 at 7:30 pm — In honor of modern dance pioneer Murray Louis’ 100th birthday, ST/DE will perform Bach Suite, taught and coached by Alberto del Saz, artistic director of the Nikolais/Louis Foundation for Dance. An exuberant, dynamic ensemble work, Bach Suite demands clarity and honesty, which gives it the bright edges that distinguish Murray Louis’ work.
Friday, October 23 at 8 pm — ST/DE member Ilana Ruth Cohen will perform Preludes, Anna Sokolow’s passionate solo to the music of Rachmaninoff. Ilana was taught and coached by Tonia Shimin, for whom the solo was originally choreographed.
Since 1956, the American Dance Guild has brought together generations of dancers, choreographers, educators, and audiences while supporting the growth and preservation of modern dance. For its 70th Anniversary Festival, they are presenting four days of performances by 28 artists and companies, presenting awards to Pat Catterson (Lifetime Achievement) and Sally Sommer (Excellence in Journalism), and tributes to Paul Sanasardo, Carla Maxwell, Nai Ni Chen, and Janet Collins.
