Sokolow Theatre Dance Ensemble opens a year in celebrations of Anna Sokolow’s 100th Birthday.
- Celebrate with us Anna Sokolow’s 100th Birthday. Whether in Contemporary dance; ROOMS, Broadway; HAIR, or ballet; OPUS 65 Her dance presents a subtle synthesis of acting and dancing; it casts its spell upon the audience through a network of intuitive kinetic reactions that have already been planted in the labyrinth of man’s inherited past. The locale and date-line of a Sokolow theme may be the here and now, but the underlying emotions are timeless. Sokolow Theatre Dance Ensemble will take you through Ms. Sokolow’s prolific career from the early works to her final work FRIDA in the late 1990’s with many special performances along the way. Whether it is political appeal, moral discourse, or psychological investigation her choreographic genius arrives at the essence of life.
Program include: Kaddish (2 different versions danced by Deborah Zall and company member Samantha Geracht), Ballade, Four Songs (with pianist Alon Nechushtan and singer Paula Valstein), Prelude (a solo originally created by Anna on dancer Tonia Shimin), excerps of Rooms, Frida, Kurt Weill and Murals (a recently discovered work that Anna created in Mexico).
