Method Dancing — The Sokolow Approach
Anna Sokolow was a dancer, choreographer, and teacher of theater/dance whose impact on the world of performing arts spans decades and disciplines. In three free classes at the New York Public Library, her method is shared by Samantha Geracht and Lauren Naslund, artistic directors of the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble. The class progresses in a standard modern dance format, from the floor, to standing, to flying through space. However, keeping true to Anna’s “method dancing,” the emphasis is on intention, motivation, and dancing honestly. Class culminates with material from two of Sokolow’s most dramatic dances: “Rooms” and “Steps of Silence.”
Classes are free, admission is first-come, first-served.
