Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble’s founding director, Jim May, will join seven other performing artists, educators, and writers in an online workshop considering “spirit” in dance, across cultures and time, presented by the New York Baroque Dance Company.
Jim May launches the workshop on Saturday, August 23 at 11:00 am Eastern Time with “The Soul of Sokolow,” a look into the 20th century and how it influenced the choreographic development of Anna Sokolow. Shaped by many forces: jazz and contemporary music, Stanislovsky’s Method, global travel, Martha Graham, Elia Kazan, Sokolow created what is known today as theater/dance: the interaction of spoken words, music, and movement for artistic expression.
Four sessions per day over 2 days: August 23 and 24, 2025.
Each session will last about 60–75 minutes and be conducted in English.
All sessions will be recorded and shared with students for a limited time after the workshop ends.
Tuition is only $35 and acts as an entrance fee to all sessions.
Faculty: Lori Belilove, Bruno Benne, Caroline Copeland, Shireen Dickson, Jim May, Nancy Reynolds, Jody Sperling, and JoDe Romano.
