4/30 – Close Quarters II, with The Bang Group

On April 30, the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble will return to the Slipper Room with another edition of Close Quarters — this time with special guests, our good friend David Parker’s company, The Bang Group.

We plan to present a wildly varied program of works by Anna Sokolow and David Parker. Ranging from dramatic to comic, surreal to real, all reach deep into the human heart. And we’re looking forward to performing again in the Slipper Room’s charming, intimate cabaret space.

The program will include excerpts of works by Anna Sokolow—from Rooms, Kurt Weill, Three Poems, Ride the Culture Loop, and Magritte, Magritte—and works by David Parker—Schlemiezel (Velcro), Two Timing, Mademoiselle Sherry, Show Business, If I Only Had a Heart—and maybe even an excerpt from David Parker’s La Nef des fous, choreographed on the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble in 2004.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble’s founding by Jim May. In 2004, the company toured France for eleven weeks with the French wind quintet le concert impromptu, performing Anna Sokolow’s Rooms and Four SongsStarburst by Jim May, and La Nef des fous, choreographed by David Parker for the dancers and musicians.
