The Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble has been invited by the Jersey City Riverview Farmers Market to participate in its 8th annual Days of the Dead celebration and Hispanic Heritage Month observance. We will perform Anna Sokolow’s Frida, with guest artist Christine Dakin in the title role. The evening will also include traditional Mexican dances performed by El Grupo Sueño Americano, young dancers from across Hudson County. And, street paving work permitting, a famous local taco truck will provide refreshments.
“This year, we’re extremely excited to be partnering with the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble to offer a passionate dance inspired by and dedicated to Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo and Anna Sokolow were colleagues and friends, starting in the 1940’s. This dance is a celebration of international collaboration and cultural appreciation.”

Board Member, Riverview Farmer’s Market
The Days of the Dead celebration begins in Riverview Park at noon on Sunday, October 30 with live mariachi music, traditional dance, and its signature parade of giant puppets by Jersey City artist Santiago Cohen. Click here for a complete schedule of events in the park.
