SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR TODAY’S DANCE STUDENTS AND AMERICA’S MODERN DANCE LEGACY

MAKE A PLEDGE TO KICKSTARTER TODAY!

Humphrey/Weidman class taught by Gail Corbin

The Sokolow Theatre Dance Ensemble invites you to a showing on April 28th at 7:00 PM at Gibney Dance Center, to experience the modern dance legacy that first step created.  In one evening you will see works by American choreographers Isadora Duncan, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman, Anna Sokolow, and Rae Ballard of Thoughts in Motion Dance.

Please consider making a pledge thru Kickstarter of $35 or more to show your support to the teachers, dancers, and students, who work to perpetuate Anna’s legacy and her unique humanistic approach to theatre/dance. Your help will extend the vitality of that vision into the future through performance, creation, preservation and education.

You can pledge thru kickstarter by using this link.

This showing is by invitation only and seating is limited. By pledging $35 of more to kickstarter today you will ensure your seat. Invitations are on a first come first served base.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE!!

With gratitude,

Sokolow class taught by Samantha Geracht

About this showing

Students of Ms. Samantha Geracht, the newly appointed Artistic Director of the Sokolow Ensemble, will perform Anna Sokolow’s Unanswered Question, along with excerpts and studies of the Sokolow style. Students from classes taught by Ms. Gail Corbin, renowned teacher of the Humphrey-Weidman technique, will perform excerpts from dances by Charles Weidman’s and Doris Humphrey.

The culmination of these classes will be this showing.  In sharing these dances with you, the student’s understanding of these works will be deepened and the traces of these dances, though fragile and temporary in nature, will live on in the minds of the viewers and the muscle-memory of the performers.

You have a priceless opportunity to see, for the first time, Isadora Duncan’s choreography and Charles Weidman’s choreography intertwined in a suite of Brahms’ Waltzes. And, rounding out the evening will be a premiere of a new work by Rae Ballard, whose work resonates in the present while being rooted in classic American modern dance.

Please help us preserve and extend this great artistic heritage, and continue to develop future generations of modern dancers.
