Jim May, Artistic Director of Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble, will be teaching a Movement Class for Actors at the prestigious H-B Studio in New York City.
This movement for actors class will focus on alignment, starting with floor exercises and develop to comprehensive standing awareness. The breath will be utilized to foster an understanding of rhythm in relationship to character and movement based on the premise that we breathe differently when we walk, run, are angry, study, etc. This will establish a foundation to approach space with a comprehensive technique that insures a command of purpose. However, the main focus of the class will be to promote imagination. This will be accomplished in studies concerned with developing movement style via music, and encouraging interpretation that relies on creative expression. Movement is a language and forms a script without words. A presentation of these studies will be made for an invited audience at the end of the term. TRIAL CLASS ($18) permitted.
Classes: September 5 – December 19, 2009 (15 classes)
Saturdays: 10:00 am to 11:30 am
